2010 Collection – - May 9th 7pm – Berkeley Art Museum

Walter Van Beirendonck is a Belgian fashion designer. His collections are inspired by the visual arts, literature, nature and ethnic influences. His unusual color combinations and a strong graphic influence are characteristic for his collections. In 1997, he designed the costumes for the U2PopMart Tour“. In 1999, he was awarded the honorary title of “Cultural Ambassador of Flanders“. In 2001, he curated the ‘Fashion 2001 Landed-Geland’ project in Antwerp. Next to five large exhibitions, a new magazine was launched: N°A magazine.

Okay, I’m going to pack a lot in here so grab your calendar.

Walter Van Beirendonck is arriving Thurs afternoon at SFO and will be appearing at the following events:

The official “velcome valter”dance party happens thursday may 6 at The Tubesteak Connection  in celebration of Walter’s first time displaying his  goods on American soil.

You can see a slideshow of his recent work at:

Then on SUNDAY we have the Spring Summer Collection at the Berkeley Art Museum:

If you’re unable to attend the show, there’s also an after-party open to the public at the Lonestar Saloon starting at 9pm the day of the show hosted by Pinups (link NSFW), the gay zine known for showcasing the type of hunky and hairy men that could easily fit in with the men of Wonde®.

PARK LIFE

I love this shop!

Last year I was stumbling down Clement Street when I tripped and fell in front of one of San Francisco’s grooviest and largely unknown shop/galleries… Park Life. It’s a shop that you would expect to see in the artsy Valencia Corridor but by making their home out in the avenues it makes the shop even stand out more by contrast. Reason to make this a destination:

Inspiring merchandise made by artists and crafts people.
A dynamite website that makes me jealous and wish I had designed it.
One of the groovier art galleries in the city.
A great place to find that “special gift” for that “special someone”.

SISTERS – Through the Looking Glass

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

So there I was. Hungover in bed EASTER MORNING with 20 minutes to throw on my mouse ears and head down to what has become another San Francisco Cultural Queer Institution complete with the Easter Bunny, a HUNKY JESUS contest and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence raising funds for another worthy cause.  Hats off to my favorite country mouse Clayton Robbins for instigating more madness and makeup in my life!

Drew Boles Video + Interview

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Earlier this month I interviewed  androgynous composer and sound designer Drew Boles at his studio in the Mission District.  Midway through the interview I coerced Drew into throwing on a stylish ensemble and performing one of his new songs down in the industrial district of San Francisco.

Besides being a talented performance artist I found Drew’s unapologetic ownership of his individualism refreshing and powerful.

Be sure to proceed to the music video immediately after the interview.
